Big Man On Campus

Nationally ranked center visit UNM for the 2008-09 Lobo Howl. Coming to Lobo events is nothing new for this big man!

Nothing gets University of New Mexico Lobos fans more excited then seeing a local player being recruited by UNM. Toss in that Los Alamos High School's Alex Kirk is a 6'10" 230 pound center and Lobo fans find themselves salivating.

Tonight Lobo fans had to be excited to once again see the Los Alamos big man at a UNM event as Alex along with his father made it out to the annual Lobo Howl. "I like to come down and watch them play and see how the Lobos are doing," said Kirk. For those of you unaware of Alex. UNM has been recruiting Alex Kirk all summer and earlier this year during UNM's Elite Camp Alex was given an offer to play for Coach Alford and the Lobos. It doesn't hurt the Lobos chances that entire Kirk family have been Lobo fans for years and are season ticket holders.

Alex at the Lobo Elite Camp this summer! has been following the recruitment of Alex Kirk all summer as his AAU team Southwest Titans have been very good at getting information out about Alex and he is really opening some eyes across the nation. Toss in that ESPN just named Alex the 4th best center and 76th best player in the nation and it is no surprise that Alex is starting to receive plenty of interest and offers right now. Weasked Alex how the recruiting process has been and what all the attention has meant to him. "It is a lot of fun," says Alex. "Listening to what everyone has to say, it is a ball and I'm just having fun with it."

With that being said Alex what schools are currently looking at him? "I have a couple," said Kirk, "but right now I am just looking and listening to everyone now." While Alex is modest did report this summer that Alex Kirk does indeed hold a solid offer from The University of New Mexico. We have also heard that there is a large number of coaches that have traveled up to Los Alamos to speak with Alex. Some of those schools on that list are UNM, USC, Arizona, Arizona St. Utah, Texas Tech, California and Washington St. Alex is also receiving interest from LSU, California, Colorado, Marquette and South Alabama. Look for that number to grow as Alex continues to improve his game and get more notoriety.

Obviously Alex isn't in a position to make a decision quite yet and he told us that he is "leaving everything open for now."

For Lobo fans salivating at the prospect of one of their own dominating in The Pit. They have to be excited that Alex has been a Lobo fans most of his life, that he plays with the Southwest Titans and 2009 verbally committed Chad Adams. "We did pretty good at nationals," said Alex. "It was a lot of fun playing with Chad."

Like I said Lobo fans try to keep your drool off The Pit floor when thinking of Big Alex Kirk joining this squad in 2010.
