Eye On Recruiting: Catching Up With Alex Kirk

One of the highest rated players ever in the state of New Mexico has started his AAU season with Houston Hoops. Go inside to listen to how much Alex has becomes since joining Hoops and other things as Coach Alan Kirk talks about one of his players who is also his son!

The recruitment of Los Alamos center Alex Kirk has really started to heat up as the 6'11" center was just named the 10th best center in the country by Scout.com and many programs are really starting to get a good look at Alex.

At last year's New Mexico Elite Camp

I was excited; as I was able to speak with his Los Alamos head coach and Alex Kirk's father Alan Kirk today about the younger Kirk his recruiting, summer workouts, and AAU today.

As TheRedMenace.com told you last November Alex Kirk was moving from the Albuquerque based Granger Hurricane to the Houston Hoops AAU program this summer. According to Coach Kirk, Alex has really benefited from the move as it allows Alex not only more exposure to the East Coast and Midwest programs, but Alex is also benefiting by playing against bigger players, and not just being "the man."

Coach Kirk said that Alex is "learning how to be a role player." Obviously at Los Alamos Alex is the tallest hoopster in the state of New Mexico and night in and night out he goes against players that are quite a few inches smaller then him. The move to Houston Hoops allow Alex to "play within a system" and puts him in a position where Alex isn't always the go to guy.

Alex will be playing for both Houston Hoops and Granger Hurricanes this summer.

Coach Kirk also goes into Alex's itinerary for this upcoming spring/summer, as Alex will be playing for both Houston Hoops and Granger's Hurricane. The younger Kirk has already played a full high school season once Los Alamos' season ended this year, and it looks like Alex will be playing all spring and summer long as well as attending the NBA Camp in June, playing with Houston Hoops in the Peach Jam, and trying to catch on at the Stoudamire and Lebron Camps.
