I'm Ready To Do The Lobo Leap!

The Red Menace tradition of the Lobo Leap helps pay off as Onate High School's Zach Daugherty becomes Mike Locksley's 1st 2010 commit! Listen to TRM's exclusive interview with Zach Daugherty!

"I'm ready to do The Lobo Leap," exclaims Zach Daugherty! These are the now famous words that Onate High School's Zach Daugherty called and told me after I interviewed him. This quote should be music to each and every member of The Red Menace ‘s ears. It truly shows that the tradition that we have all built has really matured and caught on. A young man from Las Cruces New Mexico after making one of the biggest decisions of his life says, he wants to be a Lobo and Do The Lobo Leap!
Daugherty practices for the Lobo Leap! Don't worry brother, there are plenty of Red Menace fans ready to catch you!

Friday morning I was watching Zach Daugherty  (Onate HS) running some drills with the Lobo football coaches. Per NCAA rules we weren't able to speak to Zach on University of New Mexico property, so I just watched Zach jump, run, complete drills for Coach Neinas, and of course took some pictures!

Daugherty has been on the Lobo radar screen through both Coach Locksley's and Coach Rocky Long's staff. In fact Long who is now at San Diego State had also extended an offer to the punishing MLB from Onate. They weren't the only ones and New Mexico State offered Daugherty, and UTEP was also getting interested in Daugherty.

I did get a chance to speak to Zach's father on Friday and he told me that Zach really liked both UNM and NMSU as both schools were on the rise, and the elder Daugherty said that UNM has been really recruiting Zach hard and that "we will see" now that the camp season is almost over…

Well it didn't take long for Zach to make his choice as Friday night Zach Daugherty becoming Coach Locksley's 1st 2010 recruit when he gave his verbal commitment to New Mexico.

I had the privilege to speak to Zach Daugherty hours after he gave his verbal commitment to UNM and here is what he had to say!

After this interview The Punisher Zach Daugherty called back and told me the words that made my day. "I forgot to say something that I really wanted to say," said Daugherty. What's that Zach? "I just wanted to say that I'm ready to do the Lobo Leap!"

Thanks Zach! The only thing that makes me happier then you committing is your words for The Red Menace Nation!
