What a great time for 6'11 C Alex Kirk of Los Alamos, New Mexico as he verbally committed to the University of New Mexico after a visit from UNM Asst. Coach Craig Neal. The announcement came late last night during Monday night football and tonight I had a chance to talk to Kirk about him committing to New Mexico.

As soon as UNM started recruiting Alex it was evident to fans and Alex himself that Kirk he was the number target for UNM. An instate kid, a big man, and high profile athlete. While New Mexico was all over Alex, there were plenty of many suitors looking for his services, but when in came down to it UNM was the one he wanted to call home for the next four years.

and Amare Stoudemire basketball camps, as well as playing for the Granger
Houston Hoops AAU programs. Kirk quickly blossomed and seemingly the
community was centered around the big man from Los Alamos.

In the end UNM had a recruiting battle with high profile programs that had also offered Kirk including: Arizona, Maryland, California, Minnesota, Oregon St., and many more. However, when push came to shove it came down to UNM and Arizona. Alex Kirk made the decision to play down the road.
"Coach Miller (Arizona head coach) have a good situation over there and great players, but I had to stick with UNM," Kirk said Tuesday night.

"It's incredible, I know I have a long way to go but this is my dream to play Division I basketball. It is one goal accomplished with tons ahead," exclaimed Alex!
