"I had it down to NC State and Virginia Tech, and I committed to NC State," said Thomas. "They are similar schools in regards to academics, and the only thing that will be different is how they play the game. I just felt I would fit NC State better and with them being in-state I think it was a better fit for me.
"The deciding factor was that I could fit in the program at State. Another big factor was coach Lowe. He's a great guy. I enjoyed being around him. I got to sit down and talk to him and get to know and him and he's the type of guy that I would fit in well with."
Thomas burst on the scene at the 2006 Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. The 6-foot-5, 210-pound wing earned All-Tournament honors as he led the North Carolina Gaters in scoring (15.3), and his best effort came against the World Wide Renegades. The Renegades featured J.J. Hickson and Michigan State commit Chris Allen, but it was Thomas who shined in this matchup. Thomas hit the glass hard and knocked down four 3-pointers, including three in the second half as his 19 points led the Gaters past the Renagades in their final pool game.
Thomas is explosive and has a chiseled frame, as he is strong enough to work the baseline and mix it up with bigger forwards.
Regarded as arguably the top player in the 2007 North Carolina class, Thomas led Greensboro (NC) Day to the state title as a junior. He is already fully qualified with a strong GPA and passing test score.
