O'Brien: We're going to learn a lot

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head coach Tom O'Brien met with the media following Thursday's practice.

Can you talk about Coach O'Leary. It seems like you guys have a good relationship.

We've coached against each other for almost forever it seems like, we've kind of paralleled each other in the conferences as position coaches, coordinators and then as head coaches when I was at Boston College and he was at Georgia Tech. You appreciate what he's done and what he stands for and how he coaches football. It's been an evolution of watching his career and maybe he's watched mine.

Do you feel you guys approach things similarly?

The way we approach the game of football, we learned from Bobby Ross and Coach Welsh and they were kind of similar in their approach to football. When you grow up in those type of systems with those type of values it certainly rubs off on you.

What kind of things can you expect when you face an O'Leary team?

Good defense. He's a defensive coach and a defensive coordinator so he's going to be very sound on defense. They led their conference last year in defense and they were fourth in the nation against the rush so he understands that you stop the run first and then play football from there.

You said after last weeks game that Russell Wilson needed to get better. How has he responded?

Russell is going to respond and work hard every day, he understands. He went in the film room, spent time with Coach Bible and understood what we were talking about and he came out this week and worked extremely hard to get better.

Everybody on their offensive line weighs over 300 pounds. What kind of challenges will that present?

They are strong and physical and they want to maul you. It's going to be a challenge. We're going to learn a lot about our football team this game. This is a good game for us. It's a road trip, bunch of young kids going down to play football on the road for the first time and it's supposed to be a noisy stadium against a really good football team. This will be a big challenge for us. It will probably give us a good update to where we are right now.

If Glennon couldn't play, who would be your third quarterback?

We'd have to go with Brosius. It's Russell, Glennon, Imhoff and then Brosius. That's the order.
