Wolfpack Evaluating Oak Ridge Lineman

Oak Ridge (NC) offensive lineman Demetrius Cherry is on NC State's radar, and Pack Pride has the latest on his recruitment.

Though he hasn't picked up an offer from NC State yet prep school defensive end Demetrius Cherry is hearing quite a bit from the Pack as the year unfolds.

Last year the 6-6, 245-pound prospect had a big season at Frostproof High School in the talent-rich state of Florida. Although he originally committed to Florida International, he failed to qualify and is now at Oak Ridge Military Academy. Cherry has helped his new team to a 3-0 record. Though he has the size and athleticism to play multiple positions in college Cherry believes all of the FBS schools that have taken an interest in him will want him as a defensive lineman.

Cherry made the short trip to NC State before the start of this football season to see what life would be like as a member of the Pack's football program. All indications are the trip went very well.

"When I had gone up there to check it out I really liked it," Cherry said. "I was there during two-a-days I think. They haven't offered yet. I think they're just waiting to see more. I've been having some good games so most likely they'll be coming to see me."

Cherry thought an offer was on the way from Washington State but that hasn't come in yet. That doesn't mean the Cougars aren't interested. They are, very much so. Most schools will probably just want to see some film on Cherry before they take a trip to see him in action, or better yet, decide to go ahead and offer him.

He admitted that NC State is very high on his list but wouldn't quite say he has a favorite at this point.

"I'm pretty much just looking for a top notch school where I can come in and play at," he said. "It doesn't matter which [school] it is. I just want the best situation. If I get interest then I'll go check it out and see if it's right for me."

Cherry said he has not scheduled any visits for the fall but is keeping his options open and would like to check out some schools in the weeks and months ahead if he is able to.
