NC State is off to a 4-0 start for the first time since the 2002 campaign, when the Wolfpack started out with a 9-0 mark. This marks the second 4-0 start in Tom O'Brien's 14 years as a head coach. His 1999 squad at Boston College also started off with a 4-0 mark.
BIG WIN OVER TECH
NC State's 17 point victory over Georgia Tech today ties its largest margin of victory ever over the Yellow Jackets. The Wolfpack blanked Georgia Tech 17-0 at Carter-Finley Stadium in 1987.
MOST POINTS UNDER O'BRIEN IN ACC PLAY
Today's 45 points against Georgia Tech marks the most in ACC action for the Wolfpack since Tom O'Brien took over the program in 2007. The Pack's previous high was 42 at Florida State in 2009. Wilson Sets Career High: With 368 yards passing, Russell Wilson set a new career high through the air. Wilson's previous best was 349 yards set at Florida State last season. Today's effort ranks 18th all time in the school record book.
Wilson's performance marked the seventh time in his career that he has thrown for 300 yards or more, and the 10th time he has had three or more touchdown passes.
WILSON STREAK ENDS
When Russell Wilson threw an interception on his 36th pass of today's game, it marked his first pick in 169 attempts. His streak of 168 straight passes without being intercepted was the second-longest of his career. As a freshman and sophomore, he put to- gether a streak of 379 straight throws without being picked off - an NCAA record.
GREENE GETS IT DONE
True freshman Mustafa Greene has now scored a rushing touchdown in all four of his career games.
LEFFLER PUNTS FOR PACK
Although NC State was forced to punt just twice time in today's game, a new foot was handling the duties. Redshirt junior Andy Leffler was today's starting punter with 2 kicks of 69 total yards. He came in for Jeff Ruiz, who has been the starting punter each of the past two years.
GEORGIA TECH SCORELESS IN FIRST QUARTER
Georgia Tech entered today's game averaging 9.3 points in the first quarter in its first three games. Today, a solid NC State defense kept the Yellow Jackets out of the endzone in the first frame, forcing fumbles and making stops. NC State held the Jackets to just seven points in the half (GT was averaging 18 points in the first half heading into the contest).
PACK BLOCKS KICK
The Pack's first trip to the endzone this afternoon came on a blocked punt. Sophomore tight end Asa Watson was credited with the block that senior wideout Jarvis Williams scooped up and ran into the end zone. It marked NC State's second blocked punt of the season. Last season, the Pack blocked just one punt all season.and two for the entire 2008 season and one in 2007.
NATE IS GREAT VS. YELLOW JACKETS
Linebacker Nate Irving was credited with 16 tackles this afternoon, a career-high. His previous best was 13 stops against William & Mary in 2008.
