TSW interviews Rico Tucker's father, Terry, to get the details on the offer that NC State extended over the weekend.
TSW has learned that Coach Larry Harris has offered Rico Tucker a scholarship to attend NC State. According to Rico's father, Terry Tucker, the offer was made this past weekend. "Coach Harris told us that he was not Coach Sendek, but that he could offer if he saw something special. He told us he had seen hundreds of guards in the last 8 months and Rico is one of the best in the country. He said 'no one is more athletic' and overall he is outstanding. He told us ‘we want your son and I would like to offer Rico a scholarship to NC State'. They need someone who could guard Raymond Felton, Jerrett Jack and future ACC baller Chris Paul. He also told us that they could have used Rico last Thursday."
Coach Harris tried to get an official visit out of Rico for next weekend, but according to the elder Tucker, it was too short of notice. "We would like to get there, but the timing is not good. Coach Harris told us that maybe they could come during the Bob Gibbons Tournament. I told him I was not sure if Rico's team was going to the Gibbons and he said ‘they will be going now' and he would request that Pumps bring the team. We will probably go visit then. Rico is looking forward to meeting Coach Sendek and that will give us a little more time to plan."
NC State first made contact with Rico after he reopened his recruiting this past January after giving a soft verbal to San Diego. Since, Tucker's recruitment has exploded with interest from Arizona, Gonzaga and more than a dozen other division one programs.
