CFN's Take: NC State vs Boston College

College Football News takes a look at tomorrow's contest between NC State and Boston College.

Here's The Deal … Tom O'Brien has yet to beat his former employer in three attempts since bolting the Heights. That's the least of his worries right now. The coach needs to ensure that his Wolfpack bounces back quickly from last week's devastating and emotional loss to Virginia Tech. After looking so sharp in September, NC State blew a 17-0 lead and fell in the waning moments to the Hokies.

Notorious for running out of steam, it's imperative for the program to get off the mat immediately. Boston College is facing a far graver situation these days.

A bit of a mystery after two games, the Eagles got badly exposed by Virginia Tech and Notre Dame the last two weeks. As has been the case since Matt Ryan graduated, the quarterback position is at the epicenter of the school's woes.

Why Boston College Might Win: All things considered, including the lack of offensive support, the defense has held up relatively well. With help from P Ryan Quigley and the run defense, the Eagles are only allowing 20 points a game. The front seven, in particular, is scrappy, holding the line and getting a push at the point of attack. While linemen Brad Newman and Alex Albright are getting contact behind the line of scrimmage, linebackers Luke Kuechly and Mark Herzlich are always around to clean up whatever reaches the second level.

Why NC State Might Win: It's not easy out scoring the Pack these days. For Boston College, it'll be downright impossible. The Eagle offense has been on holiday the last two games, producing just 13 points and one touchdown on a blown coverage. Plus, true freshman QB Chase Rettig, who had just removed his redshirt has an injured ankle that could shelve him. Paging Dave Shinksie. NC State, on the other hand, can score in bunches behind the playmaking of QB Russell Wilson and the running of Mustafa Greene. Wilson has thrown touchdowns to nine different players, preventing the opposition from keying on one specific receiver.

What To Watch Out For: Yeah, the Pack was run on last week, but can Boston College duplicate Virginia Tech's effort? It's doubtful if the line continues to under perform, one of the program's biggest disappointments so far. The Eagles have looked slow, a concern since NC State is No. 4 nationally in sacks. From Michael Lemon and Natanu Mageo up front to blitz-happy linebackers Audie Cole, Terrell Manning, and Nate Irving, the Pack is going to bring the heat from multiple different angles.

What Will Happen: The only way NC State flubs this game is if it's still dwelling on last week. O'Brien and Wilson won't allow that to happen. The Pack is playing substantially better than the Eagles in just about every facet of the game. It'll dominate on both sides of the, regaining its swagger and keeping Boston College reeling.
