Vikings Kick Cancer PINK Football Game
South Granville High School in Creedmoor, NC is excited to host the Vikings Kick Cancer football game on October 22, 2010 in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This all-pink football game will take place during the regularly scheduled Friday night football game at S. Granville vs. Northwood. Game time is 7:30pm. Thanks to generous donations from Regional Cancer Care, Goddard & Peterson Law Firm & Sheriff Brindell B. Wilkens, Jr., the Vikings will be playing the game in PINK jerseys! As far as we know, only ONE other high school football team IN THE NATION has ever done ANYTHING like this! This cause is near and dear to the South Granville Family. Our beloved teacher, Ms. Cynthia Twisdale lost her battle to breast cancer about 2 years ago. This year's Vikings Kick Cancer football game will be dedicated to her and all the people in our community that have been touched by this horrible disease. Proceeds will be donated to Play for P.I.N.K./Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF).
The students, staff, and Vikings community have many activities planned surrounding this game. Some include selling pink t-shirts throughout the season leading up to the game, encouraging spectators to wear pink to the game, releasing of pink balloons at kick-off in honor of those touched by cancer and much more. In addition, Northwood High School is joining our efforts to raise money for this worthwhile cause. At the coin toss before the game, the Northwood team captains plan to present a check to the S. Granville team captains with the amount they have raised for Play for P.I.N.K/BCRF.
We are also having a vendor fair & silent auction starting at 6:00pm before the game. The NC State Cheerleaders & mascots and the Durham Bull's Wool E. Bull will be there along w/ Tony Collins (former NFL w/ New England Patriots) to sign autographs! Donations collected for the silent auction so far include a Carolina Panthers autographed lithograph football, court floor pieces from the Duke 2001 National Championship, pottery, gift certificates & more! Vendors confirmed so far include Pampered Chef, Willow House, Park Lane jewelry, Thirty One Gifts, Pursonality Plus, Curves, Golden Girls gold buyers, Mary Kay, Avon, Vemma vitamins, Scentsy candles ...and the list is growing daily!
Additionally, Hawley Middle School (which feeds into SGHS) is getting involved in the cause! They will be having a powder-puff football game next Friday, October 8th starting at 4:15pm. The proceeds from the ticket gate money from that game will be added to the donations for the Vikings Kick Cancer Game! Also, an SGAA youth cheerleading squad will be participating in the game with S.Granville's cheerleaders & collecting donations as well. This has truly become a community-wide event!
The pink jerseys can be purchased, as long as they are available, for minimum donation of $100 each. Part of the money collected for the jerseys will go to replace the jersey for next year's game, and the remaining amount will be donated to the cause. For more info, contact Stephanie Smith at firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would to make a donation for the silent auction &/or participate in the vendor fair contact Michelle Thompson (Vendor fair/Silent auction coordinator) at email@example.com or (919)-699-7101. Vendor spots are being reserved on a first-come/first-serve basis & require a minimum $25 donation—spaces are filling up fast! All proceeds will be given to Play for P.I.N.K./BCRF.
