4-Star OL Plans to visit NC State

NC State has been on 4-star OL Donovan Smith for quite some time and their persistence has paid off with an official visit. Pack Pride has the latest.

The NC State coaching staff has been keeping track of four-star offensive lineman Donovan Smith for a long time.

We just haven't heard much about Smith and his relationship with NC State, due in large part to the fact that he hasn't spoken publicly much about the school since he visited. Smith was at NC State, North Carolina and Duke over the summer checking out each of the Triangle's schools, and while he says he has been thinking about NC State all along, it came as a bit surprise to find out he had set up an official visit to NC State.

"I'm going to NC State the second week of November and then I'll be at UCLA in December for their game against USC," Smith told Pack Pride.

That means Smith, a 6-7, 280-pound tackle from Owings Mills, Maryland, will be in Raleigh for the Pack's game against Wake Forest on November 13.

"I've been talking to coach (Keith) Willis," the four-star prospect continued. "You know, ever since I went down for that visit over the summer they've been on me. I've been looking at them."

Smith's list of schools has varied a little bit over the course of the recruiting process but when he spoke to Pack Pride this week he listed NC State, Michigan State, UCLA, UConn, Maryland, Penn State and Syracuse, in no particular order, as schools he is taking a hard look at.

He has already taken official visits to Penn State, Michigan State, and Syracuse.

Smith's high school team is 3-5 with two games remaining this season. Their playoff system operates on a point system, so even if they win their two remaining games they would probably need some help in order to qualify for the postseason.

When does he plan on making a decision?

"If not early December then it will be late December or early January, I think," he said.

Scout.com has ranked Smith the No. 30 offensive tackle in America.
