I'm not sure yet, I don't have a specific date or anything. I'm just focused on West Virginia right now and that's the most important thing.
How important is it to you to have a shot to play in the NFL?
It definitely means a lot, it's something I work at every day. Ever since I was little I dreamed of playing in the NFL and every single day I try to give myself the best chance I can to have that opportunity.
What do you see from West Virginia's defense and is it more a matter of the personnel of is it the odd scheme they run?
I think more than anything it's their athletic ability. They are coached very well first of all but their athletic ability takes them a long way and allows them to make plays and create turnovers and they do a great job in the red zone. It all starts up front in every defense and it slowly goes back to their linebackers and defensive backs. They've done a great job this year, they play great competition every week.
How do they compare with some of the fast defenses you've faced?
They are up there as one of the most athletic teams. It's hard to tell on film how great they are in terms of how quick they are and everything but you can definitely see their speed. I've watched them a couple time on TV. They've done a great job and it's going to be a great challenge.
Why would anyone want to consider playing in the NFL when they have a chance to play major league baseball? Is there a personal battle going on with it?
Either sport, it's love of the game. You have to have a desire to be the best every single day. I have that desire in both sports and each and every time I step on the field my mindset is to try to be the best at it. Either situation is a great opportunity and I've been blessed to have the talents to do both and that is where I go from there.
There are a lot of possibilities. I have to do what is best for me and take one day at a time and just try to do the best I can. Everything is possible, I'm not going to limit myself by any means. If I have the opportunity to play both I wouldn't shy away from it by any means. But at the same time I'm trying to do the best I can at one thing at a time.
How distracting is this? Is your focus on football or are you having a hard time with all this in the background? Can you talk about the time constraints on you and how you keep things all balanced?
I'm not having a hard time at all. I have an opportunity to play a great team in West Virginia and help lead our team in a great bowl game. That is all I'm focused on right now.
Well, I keep the Lord first and keep things in perspective. Secondly, I think that the main thing is trying to do the right thing at the right time. Trying to lead in the right way and win games. That is the most important thing. Playing football is a great thing and it's fun.
Talk about the last two years and then going into this year's bowl game with a chance to end on a high note?
The two years before is in the past, every year is different. We've done a great job so far this year in fighting and winning big time games and we have to step up again. It's another great chance to show our talents across the country.
How important is having fun playing both sports to making it something you want to keep doing?
More than anything I look at it as an opportunity and a blessing on my life and you can't shy away from your blessings. You have to go full force and attack them with everything you've got and do that every day.
Can you talk about the pressure the West Virginia defense presents to you?
You have to study the film and figure out what they do well and what they are going to do at certain times and just be prepared. The best thing we can do is have a great week of practice and try to understand what they're going to try to do to us and what we can to do be successful.
Do you ever take the time to get nostalgic about what you've done in your time at NC State? What are you the most proud of since you've been here?
Yeah, I think about it. I think about what we can do and what we're going to do. I do look in the past and see what we've done well and see what we haven't done so well and how we can all improve it for the future.
More than anything, we've persevered and continued to fight and continued to try get better every day. The level of competition we've been presented in practice in terms of each and every drill has heightened. That means a lot in terms of the coaching staff and the players we have.
Will the decision to come back be your decision or the Rockies decision?
A lot of it is on me, more than anything. But like I said, I'm taking it one day at a time.
Contractually, you have the option to come back and play again?
Where does Russell Wilson fit in with all the people who have played at NC State? Where do you want to fit in?
That's a tough question, it's hard to say. I know that what I can say for myself is that every single day I've tried to find something I can get better at, I've tried to push myself every single day. That's the only way I can get better and that's the only way this football team can get better in terms of trying to push each and every person on the team.
I don't know where I fit in or where I don't fit in, I just try to do the right thing at the right time.
When professional sports is over for you is broadcasting still something you want to do?
Yeah, I've though about a lot things. Broadcasting is definitely one of the reasons I came to school.
It's definitely something I want to do and pursue at some point. I've thought about coaching, I've thought about a lot of different things.
I've thought about even doing culinary school, I would never do it but it's crossed my mind.
How important is this type of bowl game for NC State?
Obviously West Virginia has done a great job and we've done a great job so I think that it's going to be two great teams playing against each other, it doesn't matter what the bowl game is. But also, the fact that it is the Champs Sports Bowl is a pretty big deal, it's going to be a great experience and a great atmosphere.
Is there any unfinished business with football?
I'm a championship guy. I want to win championships and I want to compete on the best level there is. If I said I didn't want one I'd be lying to you. Every single day I wake up and try to set myself and team up to be the best team there is in the country.
Does your dad getting so close to playing in the NFL have any impact on you wanting to play in the NFL?
A little bit, I think about that all the time. I think about what I've dreamed of. My dad had one dream but mine could have been something different. It's not different, my dad has the same dream for me but every single day I focus on my dream. I guess i focus on both of ours.
