Recruiting Scene: It didn't take long for Baumann to choose NC State after he received an offer from the Pack. Baumann grew up a fan of NC State so his decision came as no surprise, though the coaches had to be thrilled with the news given his lofty national ranking among specialists. He had received interest from Florida, South Carolina, Clemson and East Carolina, and he had an offer from Northwestern. That all came prior to the summer before his senior season. Baumann was far from a diamond in the rough.

Why NC State?:  "I grew up being a Wolfpack fan, and it's close to home. I want to major in Engineering and they offered that so it all came together for me."

Picked NC State over: Northwestern

Scouting Report: Baumann has excellent size and scouts have raved about his ability. His net punting average in the high school ranks is about as good as you're going to find and he has outstanding hang time for a punter at his age. Rarely does he shank a kick, and he has the ability to really get a boot on the ball and flip field position. To top it off, Baumann has an uncanny ability to place the ball near the goal line to pin a quarterback's back to the wall. Some believe he has a higher ceiling than any punter in the entire class. Because of his height and extremely long stride, Baumann will have to keep his snap times down in college.

"Wil is an outstanding punter.  He has the size, leg strength, and skill to be a dominating division one punter.  (He) hits many balls 40+ yards with 5.0+ second hang time.  Will is a sure fire D1A scholarship pick.  Great pickup for NC State. - kicking guru Chris Sailer
