Projected position at NCSU: Long snapper

Accolades: Chris Rubio, the long snapping coach for Chris Sailer kicking, rates Thompson the No. 3 long snapper in the nation.

Stats: Thompson did not botch a single snap throughout his senior season.

Commit Date: June 28, 2010

Recruiting Scene: Thompson attended a camp at NC State in mid-June of 2010 and the coaches were so impressed with what they saw that they put an offer on the table, becoming the first school to do that. He had also been receiving some interest from UCLA, but within a couple of weeks he decided to jump on NC State's invitation.

Playing time and the potential to get on the field right away was clearly a factor that worked in NC State's favor and helped to convince Thompson to come on board so quickly. He took his official visit during NC State's dramatic victory over Florida State and felt good about his decision. Despite the fact that he verbally committed to NC State, Thompson continued receiving interest from UCLA and Stanford.

Why NC State?: "It's a great school and they showed significant interest in me. I really enjoyed my visit there, and I love the coaching staff."

Scouting Report: Rubio, who specializes in long snapping, had high praise for Thompson, which means a lot. He once wrote of Thompson, ""Smooth, confident and fast is how I would describe Scott. This left has improved immensely over the past couple of years. Very, very solid long snapper with a ball that pops right back into your hands."

Thompson expects to push his weight up to 230 pounds and the coaches at NC State have told him to be prepared to come in and start as a true freshman, as the Pack will need to replace both of the long snappers on the roster in 2011.
