Pack Offers Wilkerson

NC State continues to be active in Maryland and has offered one of the state's top rising seniors. Pack Pride has the latest on Dematha defensive end Brent Wilkerson.

DeMatha High School  is known for producing some outstanding athletic talent on a yearly basis and NC State is very interested in one of the football program's top juniors.

Brent Wilkerson is a 6-4, 245-pound defensive end from DeMatha, the storied program out of Maryland that has produced both football and basketball greats. Wilkerson has had verbal offers from Virginia and Rutgers for a little while now and he recently picked up a verbal offer from NC State, Pack Pride has learned.

"Yes, they did," Wilkerson confirmed when asked whether NC State had indeed offered him.

The Pack will have to make a convincing case in the weeks ahead, as Wilkerson isn't very familiar with NC State yet.

"I don't know too much about them but I'm looking forward to getting down there and seeing what they have to offer," Wilkerson explained.

"Their coach had my e-mail and we had been in contact through that for a little bit. He told me [about the offer] that way and then he told me to call him. He just told me the same thing."

So far recruiting Wilkerson has been a team effort on the part of the NC State coaching staff.

"Coach Keith Willis showed my film to coach (Tom) O'Brien and the recruiting coordinator," he said. "Then they said they're going to offer me."

It's likely that NC State will be making trips up to DeMatha, starting with the spring evaluation period in April. The school has several other junior talents that might be worth a look as well.

Still very early in the recruiting year, Wilkerson does not claim any favorites currently.
