NC State recently became the first school to verbally offer Richmond (VA) Hermitage offensive lineman Andre Miles-Redmond.
That can be an important factor in the recruiting process because prospects often remember the first school to put an offer out there. It shows that coaches were convinced that the prospect is a good fit in their program, regardless of what coaches at other schools think. That first offer can often lead the way for many other schools to follow with an offer as well.
Miles-Redmond is a 6-4, 260-pound offensive guard from Hermitage, and he has also been drawing interest from Maryland and Duke from the ACC. He has attended junior days at Richmond as well as William & Mary, so he isn't totally under the radar.
Last week he learned that he had received his first offer.
"I found out NC State (had offered) on Thursday," Miles-Redmond told Pack Pride. "They told my coach and he told me.
"I had talked to the recruiter for our area, coach (Keith) Willis, the defensive line coach. The first time we talked he just talked about recruiting me. We talked about my grades and how I'm doing in school.
He said he was impressed with my highlight tape.
"After I got the news about the offer I called him when I got home from school. He was just talking to me about the offer, saying stuff like, 'We're really interested and we think you'd be a great addition to the team.' He didn't pressure me at all. He told me that if you do decide you want to go to NC State, whenever you do decide that we'll welcome you."
Miles-Redmond has never visited NC State before so a trip to Raleigh is definitely something he will try to map out, as he told Pack Pride.
"I still have some research to do but I've watched a couple of their games. I've got to go visit some spring practices too," he said.
