It has escaped much of the public's view but NC State is in hot pursuit of one of the top athletes in Florida.
Jeremy Glinton, a 6-1, 175-pound athlete from Oakland Park (FL) Northeast, has run the 40-yard dash in 4.5 seconds and now holds offers from Illinois, NC State and Duke, among others.
Duke became the first school to verbally offer Glinton. That was late last year and it came as a surprise, because Glinton thought his first offer would be from Miami.
"UM had been the school sending me all the letters and I hadn't even heard from Duke," Glinton said. "Now Miami is like the only school (that was recruiting him) that hasn't offered."
At one point Glinton considered Miami his favorite school, but since the Hurricanes haven't shown as much interest as some of the other schools he has heard from that is no longer the case. He does admit that he would prefer to stay away from cold weather in college, if he has the opportunity, but he wouldn't go so far as to say he wants to stay in-state.
Glinton has visited Miami, Florida State and FIU, and he's hoping to visit the schools that have offered, like NC State, sometime over the summer.
"I've talked to NC State two times," Glinton explained. "I talked to the receivers coach. The first time was in February, I think and the second time was when he offered me. That was about three weeks ago.
"I'm still researching them right now. He said he had been watching my film and he likes how I run routes and how I play. He said I just need to work on my toughness, but I have an offer."
There is a good chance Glinton will visit both NC State and Duke whenever he makes that trip to North Carolina.
Florida State has been recruiting Glinton as well, and the Seminoles have told him they would like him to run track in addition to play football, should they choose to offer him a scholarship.
Last fall Glinton caught 22 passes for 400 yards.
