The official rankings for the North Carolina class of 2012 won't be released for a couple of months but it's never too early to take a look at some of the best players in the state. Over the next two weeks, Pack Pride will break down 10 players that will challenge for a spot among the state's top players. Today we profile RB Keith Marshall
RBKeith Marshall...5-11, 190 pounds...Millbrook High School, Raleigh, NC
The Skinny....Marshall is a highlight tape waiting to happen every time he touches the football. He has good vision, patience and instincts. However, where Marshall really takes it to the next level is with his explosion, acceleration and speed.
Marshall is not so much a shake and bake type running back as he is one that finds creases, makes his move and then out runs the defense. While some players can boast great speed in a combine or camp setting, Marshall has football speed. Some argue he's just as fast with pads on as he is when running in shorts and track shoes.
While Marshall's highlight film alone has helped vault him to the top of Scout's running back list, there are a couple of concerns noted by those who have watched him week in and week out. He has a tendency to fumble the ball and this was a problem in 2010. He needs to improve on this in 2011. Marshall also needs to add size so that he can become an every down back in college. His durability will be a question mark on the next level.
Scholarship offers...Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Stanford, South Carolina and USC among others.
Where does the Pack stand?...To be completely honest, we're not sure that State is even recruiting Marshall at this point although it likely wouldn't matter if they were.
Early thoughts...Marshall is a national recruit and recently narrowed his list down to 12- Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Stanford, South Carolina and USC. As has become the case with players of his caliber, the next several months will likely have a ton of twists and turns. Behind the scenes, many feel Georgia to be the team to beat.
