Shortly after taking an extended visit to NC State, one of the top prospects in Pennsylvania says he is very impressed with what the Pack has to offer.
At 6-3 and 230-pounds, Nyeem Wartman is quietly emerging as one of the east coasts top linebacker prospects.
Late last week Wartman learned that Florida had verbally offered him. Penn State, NC State, Boston College and Rutgers have done the same, making him one of the hottest prospects in the region.
While offers from the Gators and home state Nittany Lions will make it a difficult battle for Wartman's commitment, there's no doubt the Wolfpack made a tremendous initial impression when they hosted the rising senior a couple of weeks ago.
"I was at NC State from March 16-19," Wartman said. "It was very nice. I got a lot of information out of them. I got to stay down there for a while. It was an unofficial visit but I basically got all the information you would get on an official visit.
"They seem very professional down there. They've got a good group of players in the program."
It seems as though Wartman's chance to talk to the coaches and players was the highlight of the trip.
"Me, coach (Tom) O'Brien and my coach sat down and talked for like half an hour," he said. "I was at the facilities just hanging out and waiting around with the players some of the time. They set me up with guys from New Jersey. I'm from Philadelphia so we're basically from the same tri-state area. We got along really well. We really clicked."
So where does the visit leave NC State with Wartman?
"I'm not ranking anyone yet because I haven't visited enough schools but they would probably be in my top two, without a doubt. They gave me a lot of information. I'm very comfortable with them so far because of that information. I spent more time there than I've spent anywhere else."
Wartman said the Pack is recruiting him as a MIKE linebacker and he sees an opportunity to step into a starting role right away. That's part of State's appeal.
Of course, landing Wartman will prove tough as he also visited Penn State recently. That was for a junior day and he wants to return to Happy Valley sometime soon.
Wartman is also ecstatic about the offer from the Gators and would like to get down to Gainesville in the near future as well.
He is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 34 outside linebacker in the nation by Scout.com.
