Greens have eyes toward Raleigh

Chad and David Green have their eyes set toward becoming Wolfpackers and it looks like that will happen for them later rather than sooner. caught up with the Nashville, North Carolina brothers to see where they stand in the process of attending NC State.

Two brothers with the same goal of playing football for NC State will be taking different paths to Raleigh this fall. While Chad and David Green chose to run with the Pack last winter, it now appears that both will be delayed a bit before joining up with the NC State football program.

According to Chad, he will prep this fall before enrolling at NC State. "I was up at the Red-White game and I had a chance to talk to the coaches about everything" said Chad. "Right now, it looks like I will go to Virginia and attend Hargrave during the fall and enroll at State in January. They told me they would hold my scholarship for me."

When we last talked to David, he was hoping to get up to Raleigh in June, but that also looks to of changes slightly. "I have been taking classes at Nash Tech since last fall and my grades have been good" said David. "I need to finish up there and I will be in Raleigh in August."

David has been invited to walk-on for NC State by the coaching staff. "I have not played football in two years and I am anxious to get back on the field" David said. "I want to get up (Raleigh) there and see what the future holds. Coach Diaz has told me I could play wide receiver or defensive back. It was up to me."

Chad will spend time shoring up some academics at Hargrave while improving his skills on the field for the Tigers. "I just took the SAT a couple of weeks ago so I have not got those scores back, but going to Hargrave will give me some time to work on my scores" explained Chad. "I was supposed to go up there for a visit but I went to the Red/White game instead so I will need to get up there soon to check things out."

David Green
While the dates of their arrivals seem to be set, the brothers continue to work on their game according to David. "We are lifting and running every day. We have a schedule they (NCSU coaches) sent us and we are trying to stay with that."

According to Chad, he is working on his skills as well. "I work on my technique every day. The coaches have told me that I will play defensive end or outside linebacker, depending if I gain any more weight. Right now I am 6'5 ½" and 230."

I asked Chad what his impressions were of the Red/White game. "They hit hard. Real hard! I was really impressed with Manny Lawson. He is about the same size as me and he was everywhere."

The Green Brothers were not always Wolfpack fans. They grew up pulling for UNC according to Chad. "We were not NC State fans growing up, but I became one when Coach Amato called me. He would tell me that it did not matter how tall or how fast you were, but how big of heart you had to win. He was looking for players who could step in and play right away. The UNC coaches talked about red shirting and other stuff" said Chad.

Chad continued his comparison as he talked about winning a National Championship. "Coach Amato came straight out and said ‘we were going to win a National Championship' while the UNC Coaches would say ‘we are going to try and win National Championship'. That's a big difference!" exclaimed Chad. "They (NC State) play Ohio State this year. Coach told me ‘to be the best, you had to beat the best'."

I asked Chad what was the one reason he chose NC State and he gave a two word answer three times. "Coach Amato, Coach Amato and Coach Amato."
