Gottfried: Wolfpack Fans Have Passion

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State head men's basketball coach Mark Gottfried talks with the media at last night's Wolfpack Club Caravan.

"I've been on the phone a lot today with friends... that one hits close to home. That town got demolished. I think unfortunately there will probably be more people found that didn't make it. That's tough."

"One thing I'm learning is that Wolfpack Nation has got some passion. I like it, and it's exciting to be a part of it."

"The thing is the fans have been great."

"No. 1, you want players that want to be here, that's got to be the most important thing. I'm excited that C.J. and all the other players, not just him, the guys seem to be excited about the direction we are going to go. It seems like they are buying in and it takes some time to build relationships, a trust between us and them. I think it's going great."

"We wish Ryan Harrow the best. I think it's a good move for him. He felt like that's what he needed to happen, and we're going to support him and help him find a new home."

"We've had a few workouts, and I think what stands out is we have a long way to go. We're not near where we could be if we want to have a chance to be a NCAA Tournament team."

"This is a group that has potential, but individually the guys have a lot of work to do and I think as a team we're a long ways away. It's going to take a lot of hard work and they know it. It's going to be a lot different for them than it has been in the past."

"They know where they want to go, they just don't know how to get there. We've got to help them."

"We'll see. If we don't sign the right guys then I think we're comfortable with what we have... at the same time, if it's the right guy that might be the right fit we'll look at that , but I think most of our concentration will be on the next class, the 2012 class."
