Class of 2004: Jamaal Edwards

Greensboro (NC) Dudley Running Back Jamaal Edwards had a productive junior season which has led to an impressive list of early scholarship offers.

"Last season I ran for over 2300 yards and 31 Touchdowns," Edwards told StateFans. "I also made All-State and All-Conference."

Edwards, who is a terrific athlete (4.4 speed in the 40) blessed with good size (6-foot 200 pounds) for a running back, is a blue-chip prospect that's being recruited by elite programs across the nation.

"I have offers from Florida State, North Carolina, NC State, Clemson, Virginia, Maryland, Tennessee, Georgia, and Duke," he said. "I'm mainly looking at Florida State, UNC, State, and Clemson though right now."

Does any particular school have his attention?

"I probably like Florida State the most," Jamaal said. "I grew up a fan of FSU, and I still like them. They are not recruiting me hard but they have offered."

One local program appears to have made Edwards a major target very early in the recruiting process.

"Carolina is recruiting me the hardest. I like the coaching staff at UNC, and they told me I can graduate in three years there under a program they have."

N.C. State is another ACC school that could be a potential contender for one of North Carolina's finest prep stars.

"I like State too," he told us. "They are winning a lot of games and everyone likes that. State's not recruiting me that hard, but they have offered me."

Edwards plans on camping this summer at all the in-state camps, Clemson, Florida State, and Tennessee. However, he won't be attending the NIKE Camp in Blacksburg, Virginia.

"I can't make that camp because I'm going to probably still be doing track," he said. "I will be going to the NIKE Camp at Auburn though that's later on in the year."

Greensboro (NC) Dudley will be a trendy pick to win the state championship this season, as they boast a lineup that includes two other high-major D-1 recruits to go along with Edwards.

"Demario Pressley and Martel Thatch are also being recruited by a lot of schools," Jamaal mentioned. "Demario is the top player in the state, and I think he might come down to Carolina or State. I know Martel likes the same schools as us, but I think he likes Virginia too."

Look for this running back to take his time when making his college decision.

"I'm going to take all my visits before deciding," he said. "I want to see all the schools on my list first, so I'll definitely take all my official visits."
