Name: Alex Johnson
Hometown: Toronto, Canada
School: Cal State Bakersfield
Position: Point Guard
Notes: Alex Johnson, who just completed his redshirt junior season, is a transfer who will be eligible to play right away for the Wolfpack after graduating this spring. Because he has his degree, NCAA rules allow Johnson to transfer to another school and play right away as long as he pursues a graduate degree not currently offered by Cal State Bakersfield.
In 2010-2011 he played 31 minutes a night for the Roadrunners, averaging 13.3 points and 2.4 assists. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder knocked down a team-high 79 3-pointers, and he ended his career at CSUB No. 2 all-time in three-pointers made (165).
He also finished second on the team in assists (2.4) and steals (1.1).
Johnson developed a reputation coming out of Toronto, Canada playing for Ro Russell's Grassroots Canada AAU program. Russell believes that Johnson is more than capable of playing on the ACC level.
"No doubt about it," said Russell. "He's played against great players on AAU and in college. He was being looked at by some very good schools but qualified in July and at that point those programs had signed other players. Alex was ready to go to college so he took the first scholarship available at that time.
"He started for us and played in the same backcourt with Junior Cadougan, who is at Marquette. Alex is a fiery competitor, has great leadership skills, and he is an outstanding outside shooter."
