David Horning began working in Wolfpack athletics in 1984, and is currently the Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director. Horning supervises daily administrative duties, Football operations, Basketball operations, Personnel Unit Support, Sports Medicine, Student Services, Academic Support Oversight and serves on the ICA Cabinet.
Horning also serves as sport supervisor for baseball and gymnastics, while partnering with Debbie A. Yow on football and men's basketball operations.
During his time at NC State, Horning has served as the senior administrator for all men's sports with particular emphasis upon internal operations, men's basketball and football. He oversaw video services, Murphy Football Center, the equipment rooms, Track & Field and Cross Country, and Wrestling, as well as ongoing capital projects and facility renovations for the department.
A native of Kent Ohio, Horning lettered three seasons at outside linebacker on the NC State Football team from 1978-1980, participating in the 1977 Peach Bowl and 1978 Tangerine Bowl. He was also a member of the 1979 Wolfpack squad that won the ACC title. A recipient of the prestigious Gatling Academic Scholarship Award, Horning earned his B. S. in education from NC State in 1981 and his master's degree in education in 1989.
Horning is married to the former Geri Greenhill of Durham, an NC State graduate from the College of Management. They have a son, Joseph.
Chris Kingston, currently the Senior Associate Director of Athletics, will replace Horning as Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director.
