NBPA: BeeJay Anya Q&A

Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha Catholic rising junior center BeeJay Anya talks with Pack Pride.

Hyattsville (MD) DeMatha Catholic rising junior center Beejay Anya is one of the few 2013 prospects who participated in the 2011 NBPA Top 100 Camp. Anya, who averaged 4.7 points per game at the camp, already holds an offer from NC State and several other high-major programs.

He talks about his game and recruitment in this Q&A with Pack Pride.

Tyler Lewis had a big game for you in the opener. What are your thoughts on him?
He's a great point guard... a very, very good point guard. He can pass the ball, shoot the ball, and drive the ball. He's not scared to take it to the rim either.

He's a great teammate too. I like playing with him a lot.

I think you've faced him in AAU so you're familiar with his game already, right?
Yes, we played them in Pittsburgh. We gave them an 'L' though, but he played very well. I think he had 33 or something like that.

Where are you at right now with recruiting?
Texas, Ohio State, Georgetown, Maryland, NC State, Virginia Tech, Pittsburgh, Virginia, West Virginia, South Carolina, South Florida, Rutgers, St. John's, UCLA, and a bunch of others.

Which of those schools have offered you a scholarship?
All of them but Ohio State have offered me.

What do the colleges like about your game?
They like my defense. I'm a very good defensive player. I like blocking shots and rebounding. I can score in the paint. I'm dominant at times, but I've got to work on my shooting basically.

Have you talked to any about unofficial visits?
I took an unofficial visit to UCLA when I was in L.A. for the EYBL.

I like the school. The campus was beautiful and the coaching staff is very nice. The school was beautiful.

Do you have any leaders right now?
I'm completely open.

Which school is recruiting you the hardest?
All that have offered are recruiting me the same.
