Nerlens Noel is a star on the hardwood, as he is considered one of the elite prospects in the 2013 class. He was named Most Impressive Underclassman at the 2011 NBPA Camp, and the big-time shotblocker spoke with Pack Pride about his game and recruitment.
You really seem to take love playing defense and some consider you to be the best shotblocker in the country, regardless of class. Can you talk about how you approach playing defense?
I just emphasize defense. Defense wins championships, and I love to win championships. Defense is just my thing. I think it will make me successful if I keep playing defense and develop my offense. It will take me a long way.
What do believe you need to improve on as a player?
I just have to keep working on my body... eating well and putting on weight. I need to get stronger and work on my skills.
Are most schools recruiting you to play center?
I'm not even sure myself. It's probably as a four or five-man. Either is fine with me.
Which colleges have already called you?
Florida, Kentucky, Pittsburgh, Providence, Texas Tech, and I've been here so it's hard... I've had quite a few missed calls that I haven't got back to yet.
What schools are recruiting you right now?
I'm looking at a lot of schools all over the country. The Big East, ACC, SEC and a few schools in other conferences. It's early right now. I'm just weighing it all out.
So you don't have a list right now?
No, but I'm going to put out a list at the end of the summer, maybe early in the fall
Will it be a top five or a broader list of schools?
Probably a broad list of about 10 to 15 schools.
You have an older brother, Rodman, who is enrolling at NC State this summer to play football. Is that a school that is recruiting you?
NC State, yes, they've been to my school. They came with their new staff. They are great guys. I'll be looking forward to making a visit down there pretty soon.
Has Rodman mentioned NC State to you much?
He told me it's a great school. It's down south... great weather. He said the environment is real good. From what he says it seems to be a great place.
I'll be visiting them pretty soon. I'm looking at NC State.
What will be the No. 1 factor you look at when the time comes to pick a school?
The No. 1 thing will probably be the coaching staff. I want to know what they run... what kind of offense, also if they are loyal or honest. Will the coach still be there? Does he take care of his players? Does he develop his players?
Those are some of the main things, and I'm looking for a good academic school also.
