O'Brien Endorses Glennon As Team's New Leader

PINEHURST, N.C. -- NC State head coach Tom O'Brien says that Glennon may not have been ready before, but heading into this season, he gives the Wolfpack a real chance to compete.

"I need my sunscreen up here."

"[Mike Glennon was] a true freshman the last time we did this. After two scrimmages he was right in the mix and had a chance at being the starting quarterback."

"The last three spring practices have been his show. A lot of those things he didn't understand as a true freshman he now understands. Certainly he has physical talent. The experience part, he's going to have to play. That's true of anybody at any position."

"I don't tend to hyperbole so I think I'm just telling you what I see. I had four quarterbacks at Boston College play in the league. That's an assessment of looking at his talent compared to their talent. He has that ability. Still, the quarterback position is different once the ball is snapped and everything starts running around."

"I think the percentages are in his favor that he can handle those things."

"He has his brother to lean on, he has somebody to talk to... he knows that it is his time to play."

"It's his time and it's his place. I know he's excited and can't wait until next Tuesday gets here and he can get started."

"That did not figure into this decision at all. I didn't think about that when we got to that."

"I think it was a matter of trying to get seven home games and being able to get teams to come to Carter-Finley and be able to play seven."

"If you guys knew what the heck you were talking about you wouldn't be sitting here. I don't care where you picked me. We've got to play 12 games to get to Charlotte and that's our goal."

"It's a hard thing to do, but I'll do the best job I can to keep our names out the paper that way. Hopefully keep our names in the paper for playing great football and having great kids."

"Torian Box is no longer in school. He didn't live up to our expectations. He will transfer."

"Jarvis Byrd... injured the ACL in his other knee so he'll be out for the year."

"The injury update on the three guys out in the spring, Mustafa looks like it might be the first of October before he's ready to go."

"They are on track... it could be sooner, it could be later."

"On this football team you've got four senior starters on defense... you don't have many senior starters on this football team."

"We lost four games in the last minute or last play of the game last year. We've got to find a way to get over that hump."
