Overall thoughts on the Liberty win:
I think that once we got them figured out we started doing well. For me, it's about getting used to playing the whole game again and staying focused from start-to-finish.
It's about managing the game from the first quarter to the fourth quarter.
You started the game against Liberty going 8-of-17 but finished 10-of-14 over the final couple of quarters. Did things click for you, or did you change anything in particular?
It was a little bit of both. Coach Bible did a great job with the play-calling, and the guys got open. Plus, I think I executed the offense better. I relaxed and took what the defense gave me.
It also looked like the staff placed an emphasis on running the football later in the game.
We wanted to establish the run to set up the pass. That's what we did in the second half.
On offense we want to run the ball well and play physical. That should open up things on the outside and deep down the field.
What are your early impressions of Wake's defense on film?
They are a real veteran group. I think they return eight starters and all but one of the starters in the secondary are back.
They are comfortable with each other and know what they are doing. They really fly to the ball.
Are Wake and Liberty's defensive schemes different?
It's just a little different. Liberty threw a lot of stuff at us. We didn't have a full grasp of what they were going to do because it was the first game.
We kind of saw what Wake Forest did against Syracuse so we're a little more comfortable with them because of that.
NC State hasn't had a lot of success at Wake Forest recently. Any theories as to why?
I have no clue. I played there once... I mean I was there once. I heard we hadn't won there in 10 years, but I don't know the exact reasons. I‘ve only been a part of one game there.
Wake has had good teams over the past few years State played there.
Yes, I think they have a good coach. When he got there they won the ACC championship shortly after.
They've got players on the team that work hard and really fly to the ball. They seem like a relentless, high-motor group.
Liberty was a non-conference game, but the game against Wake Forest isn't just your first road game but also the ACC opener. How big of a game is it for your team?
I think it's a big game. It's in the conference, it's in the division, and it's on the road. Anything in conference is big and anything in the division is even bigger. Plus, it's on the road.
It's a big game for us.
