WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- NC State head coach Tom O'Brien with the media following the Wolfpack's loss to Wake Forest on Saturday.

"Well certainly not a good effort on our part and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. We have to get it straightened out -- that's we -- coaches first, players, that's everybody on this football team. Too many big plays, never gave ourselves a chance to win."

"Yeah, but you still lose. I'm not into all this 'we fought back' and all that, we still lost the game. A game that we didn't play well in. I have to get it straightened out and I intend to get it straightened out."

"The defense, we haven't played defense like this in God knows how long. So many big plays. You come in knowing that you are going to get the reverse passes, all that, and it looks like we never saw one of this things. Wake Forest does a great job doing those things."

"I'm not going to make excuses."

"I was more concerned with what was going on with the offense, I haven't talked to the defensive guys yet. I didn't pay much attention to what was going on there in the first half, so I'll get back to you Monday and let you know."

"We were just trying to move the football. I don't think [Mike Glennon] is uncomfortable at all playing the offense."

"They had more energy than we did. You can't do that, especially on the road in a conference game. We have to look for leadership and we certainly haven't gotten any right now out of anybody on this football team. The guys that have played have to be the ones to pick it up and set the pace and we didn't get that."

"We expect that, Mike is capable of doing those things and I think that certainly when we caught the ball we made some plays."

"No positive losing, ever."

"Drops are concentration. I've always believed that. I tell the quarterback not to worry about the drops because somebody is going to make a great play for you sometime. I think it all evens out. We have to make plays if we're going to be any good in this league. When we have our chance we have to make them."

"We're 1-1. We have a lot of work to do and I'm going to make sure we get it done starting this week. A lot of games left to play and a lot of good football players on this team. The guys need to wake up, this isn't last year. We have to come out with a whole different mindset and effort than we've been getting out of this football team. I have to get it out of them and I'm going to get it out of them."

"It hasn't manifested itself yet. Sometime when you get in a tough game like this guys step up and take the mantle on but maybe after I look at the tape I'll see things one way or another. Some guys played and there are going to be some guys that played really well today, but not enough."
