Allen: 'I Want To Hit Somebody'

RALEIGH, N.C. -- NC State redshirt junior offensive guard Zach Allen talks with Pack Pride about Saturday's game South Alabama.

How do you feel the offensive line improved from the Liberty game to the Wake Forest game?
We paid more attention to detail and executed all the blocks. We played all the way to the whistle. That is our mindset. I think that's where we improved.

What do you feel contributed to that improvement?
A lot of preparation throughout the week. The scout team has been giving us some looks. The coaches have done a good job of game-planning for us.

South Alabama runs a unique scheme. At times they may have only two defensive linemen with their hands on the ground... everyone else standing up. Is that confusing or challenging to prepare for?
At first glance it might be, but after being in the playbook and learning the scheme of their defense and the coaches doing a good job of the way we will execute our offense... it's pretty easy.

The running game has certainly looked improved.
We've got great running backs, and they've done their job. The offensive line has been creating holes and the running backs have hit the holes hard... not letting first guy tackle them.

We definitely did a nice job.

The offensive line also didn't give up a sack against Wake Forest. How did that feel?
It's a great feeling, but we're doing what we're supposed to do. It's no different.

As an offensive lineman do you prefer high-scoring games or low-scoring contests where you may be running the ball more?
I'm a guard. I'm a road-grader. I want to hit somebody. There is a saying, "One of the greatest feelings is moving a man against his own will." That's what I love to do.

I'm an offensive lineman. Running the ball and hitting somebody in the mouth is my favorite thing to do.

In talking with some of the other players this week they've mentioned that they want to start faster this week. Is that a common theme?
That's one of the things we're working on, coming out the gate fast... not waiting until something happens.

We want to come out and hit them in the mouth and execute our offense.

How is the chemistry between you and center Camden Wentz?
It's real good. We're friends on and off the field, and we can depend on each other. I know what he's going to do, and he knows what I'm going to do.

Because of that we know we can just go out and execute our offense.

What is the No. 1 goal for the offensive line?
We want to completely dominate the defensive line. We want to do that every week.
