Locker Room Report: Tom O'Brien

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Tom O'Brien spoke with the media following the Pack's win over South Alabama on Saturday night at Carter-Finley Stadium.

"We're happy to make it with the victory. We're certainly not a pretty team but we found a way to get it done. We have a quick turnaround now and now the goal is to get ourselves rested and go play Cincinnati Thursday night."

"[Mike Glennon] is a good quarterback, I don't think there is any question about it. We still tried to run the football even though they got nine guys within five yards of the line of scrimmage. We probably could have thrown the ball more but that wasn't what we had to do tonight. Certainly there were opportunities, when you get nine guys playing the run, there is a 1-on-1 on the outside and you get a chance to beat some people."

"We practiced much better as a football team, with a sense of urgency. There was a little bit of panic on the field, which was good. You have to have that because the margin for error is awful small and it will be very small with this team."

"We're fortunate to have Dwayne [Maddox], he's got a lot of experience, he's been waiting his turn. He played a lot as a freshman and then maybe didn't get as many snaps but he's been playing both the middle linebacker and the weak linebacker spot for us, trying to do both of those. He did a nice job giving us a boost."

"Anytime you are in the red zone and you get a sack like that it's a big play. We were able to keep them out of the end zone there and it was good, we made them kick a field goal. That was a big play at that point in the ball game."

"The offense is starting to creep to get better and better each and every week. You look at the line, those guys are hustling, they are starting to communicate a little better. We got the quarterback hit a couple times tonight, which wasn't good, but that's one thing that's a real positive for us."

"We went right down the field and scored so that got us off on the right track. Bryan Underwood caught that ball and was surprised how open he was and took off. If he took off right away he probably would have scored."

"Audie [Cole] is doing yeoman work, he's trying to get everybody lined up and with the revolving cast of characters he had in front of him tonight that was a pretty big task. We had a lot of guys that weren't going the right way. As a a team I think we need to tackle better. We didn't tackle very well tonight. We didn't play the defense the way it's structured against the run. That's part of those young guys never playing. We have to get that corrected here in two days before we get to Cincinnati."

"[T.J. Graham] is a much different kid this year. He's a guy that played behind Jarvis [Williams] and Owen [Spencer] last year and he has to be guy, a real guy. He's really been maybe a little better than we could have expected at this point. When you look at him and the play of Tobais Palmer. Tobais made some great plays on special teams, tackles, on Underwood's touchdown he knocked the guy out of the back of the end zone blocking downfield."
