Cleveland (OH) Benedictine tight end Mike Roberts is a load at 6-6 and 240-pounds and many believe he's one of the top remaining prospects at his position in the Midwest region.
NC State is just one of the schools that has offered Roberts, along with the likes of Louisville, Cincinnati, UConn and Kansas. Plenty of MAC schools have also been involved with him.
"I think I'm going to take official visits to a couple of places," Roberts told Pack Pride this past weekend.
"I'm going to take officials to Louisville, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and UConn. I'd like to get to Bowling Green too."
While a quick first glance at that list might imply that NC State isn't a serious contender for Roberts he clarified that the Pack remains an option.
"I'm still looking at them," Roberts said in reference to the Wolfpack. "I've had a couple of conversations over the phone with Coach Don Horton. He just seems like he's a really straight up guy, so I'm still looking at them.
"I do like some schools, but I'm trying to keep my mind open to anything. I don't want to get too caught up on one school."
Roberts was recently very open about the fact that Louisville has his interest. He visited with the Cardinals in September and came away saying the Big East school is his current favorite.
Since the contact period opened up at the beginning of September Roberts stated he hasn't heard from NC State, so it's not clear just how high he is on NC State's recruiting board.
Roberts flashed his ability in his team's opening four games of the season. In the first game Roberts caught three passes for 94 yards. He followed that up with a four-catch performance. In the third matchup Roberts hauled in three balls for 80 yards, and in the fourth he had six catches for a season-best 120-yards and two touchdowns.
Those numbers indicate he's a legitimate pass catching threat, and when you've got a big tight end that can give you that it opens up a completely new dimension for an offense.
Roberts said his official visits will most likely come after his season so he can focus on helping his team this fall.
