Whitehurst Planning to Visit NC State

Syracuse linebacker commitment Tashon Whitehurst is planning to visit to NC State. Pack Pride has the latest on his recruitment.

One of the top linebackers from the state of Florida is committed to Syracuse but plans on taking an official visit to NC State.

Tashon Whitehurst committed to the Orange over the summer but even at the time he was up front about the fact that he planned on checking other schools out.

True to his word, Whitehurst has already started taking official visits to other places. He was at Marshall recently. That trip went well for him and seems to have helped solidify the Thundering Herd's status as a school that's in the mix.

Whitehurst is also planning on taking an official visit to Iowa State on October 21.

"I'm going to NC State too," Whitehurst told Pack Pride. "They've been recruiting me. I wouldn't say they've recruited me too hard but I've heard from them a solid amount.

"I don't really know a whole lot about them yet. That's one of the reasons I was planning on going out there. They've offered and I've been talking to the defensive backs coach, Coach (Mike) Reed. He just wants me to come up sometime."

What would have to happen for Whitehurst to back out of his verbal pledge to Syracuse and sign elsewhere?

"That's tough to say," he admitted. "I don't really know. I'm still a hard, solid verbal but I'm just going to check out some other schools to see what they're like."

Some of the schools that have offered the 6-2, 190-pound prospect have told him he would play outside linebacker while others are recruiting him as a middle linebacker.

The Gainesville, Florida linebacker is rated a two-star prospect according to Scout.
