The last time Pack Pride caught up with Hamilton (OH) three-star offensive tackle Adam Pankey he told us that four schools were standing out.
That was late last month and the schools Pankey mentioned were Illinois, NC State, Pittsburgh and West Virginia.
Two weekends ago the 6-5, 300-pound lineman took an official visit to NC State. He recapped that trip with us when we spoke with him this weekend.
"It was good," Pankey recalled. "It was real fun. That was my first official visit so it was my first time seeing how official visits go. I thought it went real well.
"I went and we saw the campus and everything. I didn't get the whole 48-hour official. I only got about one day so we put everything into one day. It was the game and everything else that Saturday. I met all the players and saw a bunch of things."
How did Pankey get along with the guys that would be his future teammates, should he choose the Pack?
"They were a lot like me," he said. "They were down to earth people and just good people overall.
"I talked to the coaches too. I like watching the way they coach. They're real into it."
That remains the only official visit Pankey has taken to date. He did, however, take an unofficial visit to Illinois this weekend.
"I just went up to Illinois," Pankey said. "It was my first game up there so I got to see the atmosphere. It was very nice. It was a big game."
Unfortunately for the Illini it was a loss to Ohio State, their first loss of the season. Pankey's next official visit is to Pitt and that will be this coming weekend.
"I've also got an official to Illinois for their game against Wisconsin," he said. "That's an official too."
Pankey said he's not sure about an official visit to West Virginia. He said he's trying to set that up.
The four schools still on Pankey's list are even and he told Pack Pride that none of them are standing out above the others right now. What does NC State have going for it?
"The fans always turn out in good numbers week in and week out," he said. "I really like NC State's fan base and the support the team has."
