Projected 2012-2013 NC State Roster

NC State will currently have eleven scholarships filled for the 2012-2013 season following the commitment of Rodney Purvis. Here is a closer look at the projected roster and depth chart.

NC State will currently have eleven scholarships filled for the 2012-2013 season following the commitment of five-star combo guard Rodney Purvis.

Purvis is NC State's second commitment in the 2012 recruiting class, as he joins four-star point guard Tyler Lewis. The Wolfpack is projected to lose just two scholarship players from the 2011-12 team, wing C.J. Williams and guard Alex Johnson.

NC State still has two scholarships remaining to use on the 2012 recruiting class.

With four seniors on the 2012-2013 team, NC State will have another four scholarships available for the 2013 recruiting class.

2012-2013 Projected NC State Scholarship Roster
Here is an updated roster of the scholarship players following the commitment from Rodney Purvis.

Scott Wood F Sr. Marion (Marion, Ind.) 6-6/175
Wood has played small forward his entire career, but he will probably need to play some in the backcourt given the lack of depth. Can he handle it defensively? Wood led the team in minutes played last year (31.3), and he averaged 9.7 points and hit 42% of his 3-point attempts.
Jordan Vandenberg C Sr. Aust. Institute of Sport (Melbourne, Aust.) 7-1/258
Vandenberg started to earn minutes later in the year, providing energy off the bench. With Tracy Smith graduating, he could be in line for the starting job at center.
Richard Howell F Sr. Wheeler (Marietta, Ga.) 6-8/250
Howell could really emerge for the Wolfpack during his junior campaign, as he was their most efficient player last season. Playing just 18 minutes a night, Howell averaged 7.4 points and 6.5 rebounds while shooting 52% from the field. He should be able to contribute at power forward and center in Mark Gottfried's high post offense. He lost weight in the offseason, which should add to his effectiveness.
DeShawn Painter C Sr. Hargrave (Norfolk, Va.) 6-9/231
Like with Vandenberg, Painter has a tremendous opportunity in front of him following Smith's graduation. He showed signs of progressing when Smith was sidelined last year.
C.J. Leslie PF Jr. Word of God (Raleigh, N.C.) 6-8/209
Leslie was an All-ACC freshman team pick this past season for the Wolfpack, and his role should expand in 2011. He averaged 11.0 points and led the Wolfpack in rebounding (7.2) and blocked shots (1.3). Leslie could be asked to play more small forward as a sophomore.
Lorenzo Brown G Jr. Centennial (Roswell, Ga.) 6-5/186
Harrow's departure opens the door wide open for Lorenzo Brown to seize control of NC State's team. Harrow missed 2.5 games last year with an illness (Duke, UNC, and VT), and in those games Brown averaged 14.3 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. He will be the primary ballhandler from day one and could have a big sophomore campaign.
Thomas de Thaey PF Soph. Canarias Basketball Academy (Dendermonde, Belgium) 6-8/239
NC State's last signee in the 2011 class, de Thaey is expected to contribute right away for the Wolfpack. A power forward capable of playing in the paint or on the perimeter, de Thaey is athletic and skilled.
Tyler Harris F Soph. St. Benedict's (Long Island, N.Y.) 6-8/203
Harris is going to have to contribute next season for the Wolfpack, likely at both forward positions. A fundamentally sound player with a strong outside jumper, he should add some versatility off the bench.
Jaqawn Raymond G Soph. Statesboro (Statesboro, Ga.) 6-4/195
NC State's latest signee, Raymond will be asked to play right away as a true freshman, providing depth in the backcourt. An athletic player, Raymond will likely back up the guard positions next year.
Tyler Lewis PG Fr. Forsyth Country Day (Lewisville, N.C.) 5-11/165
NC State's first commitment in the 2012 class, Lewis should see minutes right away at point guard for the Wolfpack.
Rodney Purvis SG/PG Fr. Upper Room (Raleigh, N.C.) 6-4/185
Like Lewis, Purvis will be counted on to play as a true freshman. He'll provide depth at shooting guard and could even play as a third guard in a three-guard lineup.
