Shuler Sorting Through Process

Jacksonville High guard Jamal Shuler is hearing from a bounty of schools. The combo guard will showcase his skills at this weekend's Tournament of Champions.

Jamal Shuler, a 23 point per game scorer at Jacksonville (NC) High, will be playing with the NC Gaters at this weekend's Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions. Shuler made the switch to the Gaters after initially planning to play with his local AAU organization.

He's being recruited to play both backcourt slots by the schools on his list. "Most of the schools I talked to said that they are recruiting me as a player. That's what I've been hearing the most."

Shuler has a favorite, though the situation is a little more complicated than just naming a leader. "I'm leaning heavily towards [N.C.] State right now," Shuler said. "But, they haven't offered me." And therein lies the complication. He likes the Pack, the question remains though, will the Pack take the next step?

"I'm getting calls from State, Virginia Tech offered two weeks ago. UNC-Wilmington offered last month."

The plan is for the guard to reach a decision by the fall. "I'm really leaning toward making my decision at the end of the summer after everything dies down. Then, I'll just talk with my family and my coaches and make my decision." Jamal Shuler has offers from UNC-Wilmington and Virginia Tech thus far. He's hearing from NC State and Georgia Tech on a regular basis. He'd like to decide by the end of the summer. He'll be playing with the NC Gaters in this weekend's Tournament of Champions.
