Thornton Commits to the Pack

NC State picked up a key commitment for the class of 2012 on Friday when RB Shadrach Thornton announced his decision to play for the Wolfpack.

Hinesville (GA) Liberty County RB Shadrach Thornton (6-1, 195 pounds)  has been a major target for NC State throughout 2011 and the Wolfpack's hard work was rewarded Friday night when Thornton committed to the Pack.

According to a report in the Savannah Morning News, Thornton made his decision public Friday night.

"I really like the pro-style offense that North Carolina State runs and I like (running backs) coach (Everette) Sands. After he saw my highlights, he was all over it," Thornton said. "Even when I took trips to other schools, he stayed on me and let me know how much he wanted me to play there."

Although he initially committed to Kentucky, Thornton decided to continue taking visits with NC State, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech emerging as the main players.

One of the few bright spots for his 2-8 Liberty County squad, Thornton rushed for 1,738 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2011, averaging better than seven yards per carry.

Thornton is rated a three-star prospect and the No. 81 running back in the nation by Scout.com.
