Though only a junior, Jasper Sasser already has four verbal offers. More are sure to come.
On Friday, just before Jacksonville (FL) Wolfson's most recent football game, one of the school's top prospects got some great news.
"NC State offered me right before we played," Sasser recalled recently.
Clemson, Southern Miss and UMass are the other schools that have offered the 6-2, 185-pound athlete from the Sunshine State.
Others, like Florida, Alabama, Vanderbilt and Duke, have been talking to Sasser and trying to gauge his interest.
"They've just come to my school and found out about me," he explained. "They're asking me what I want to play in college. I told them I'd love to play running back and they've all said they'll just keep looking at me."
NC State was especially impressed when they stopped by Wolfson to get a glimpse of Sasser's film.
"I think it was Coach Sands that came by from NC State," he said. "I guess he saw some of my film where I scored five touchdowns in one game. Then he saw film from another game where I scored three times. That caught his attention.
"I know he likes backs that can do everything -- guys that are powerful, can run routes and get extra yards."
Evidently Sands made a good early impression that has the Pack in a solid position with Sasser.
"He seems like a cool guy that I could get along with very well. I've been looking at them lately ever since they offered me. I think that's a school I could fit in well at."
Of course, Sasser has never visited Raleigh so a trip to NC State could help cement the Pack near the top of Sasser's list. That's important, considering all of the SEC offers Sasser is likely to pick up between now and his senior season. Though he's never visited Sasser still rates the Pack near the top of his list.
"I'd say they're near the top with some other schools like Clemson, Florida, Duke, North Carolina, Miami and some others.
"I'm looking for a good, diverse college," he said. "I want a good atmosphere where I know I can enjoy myself while I'm learning. I want that and good teammates."
