Miami (FL) South High School's Javier Estopinan is one of the premier linebackers in the state of Florida. Recently he attended the University of Miami NIKE Camp and tested out well.
"I went to the camp at UM," Javier told StateFans. "I think I did pretty well. They had me down for 21 reps of 185 pounds, with a 31 inch vertical, a 4.7 40, and a 4.12 in the pro shuttle. I was measured at 6'2 236."
Estopinan is not only a great football player, as he's also a star on the wrestling mat.
"I was a state champion last year in the 215-pound weight class, and I finished 45-0. At the beginning it was tough to keep my weight down, but then I got the hang of it. I do know that next year I'm going to wrestle heavyweight so I won't have to worry about losing any weight."
Following the NIKE Camp and May evaluation period, Javier has a firm list of schools that he's set on.
"I like NC State, Ohio State, LSU, Boston College, Florida, FSU, and Rutgers the most. All of them have offered me a scholarship except for Ohio State. I'm going to probably take one-day camps with N.C. State, Ohio State, and Rutgers. These schools have said they want me as a linebacker." Growing up in Miami, you would think that Estopinan grew up a Hurricane fan, but that's not the case.
"Well, I grew up liking Florida State. But, for some reason I'd like to beat them now instead of play for them. So, alot of people think they would be my leader but that's not how it is."
Don't look for the Miami linebacker to decide anytime soon, as he's going to be patient and make a late decision.
"I'm not going to make a choice until after I take my five visits. Then I'll decide this winter."
