NC State has methodically put together a very solid recruiting class for 2012 and with roughly two months to go before signing day, have just a couple of spots left to fill. Pack Pride breaks down several of the remaining candidates on the Wolfpack's recruiting board.
RB Abner Logan...Brookline High School, Dexter, MA
Notes...lists NC State, Northwestern and Maryland as his top three. The Wolfpack loves him and we think State may be a silent leader prior to his final official visits. It will likely turn out that the Terrapins will become the Pack's biggest threat. (Wolfpack chances- High)
OL Mark Glowinski...Lackawanna Junior College, Scranton, PA
Notes...State found out about him late but quickly made him a huge priority for the class of 2012. Ironically, he got a quick look at State when his Lackawanna squad played a game in Carter-Finley Stadium a few weeks back. He told Pack Pride that he planned to visit State as soon as possible but has also expressed a desire to play in Florida and that is a real threat. For now, South Florida is the only Sunshine State school on the radar. (Wolfpack chances- High)
OL Bryce Kennedy...Pinecrest High School, Southern Pines, NC
Notes...Just a week after officially visiting State, Kennedy committed to UNC while in Chapel Hill on an unofficial visit. However, the Pack has seemingly reentered the race after Wolfpack OL coach Jim Bridge visited Pinecrest this past week. State desperately needs to get Kennedy back on campus. He plans to enroll in January and with UNC's coaching situation up in the air there may be a window for the Pack especially if Carolina OL coach Sam Pittman is not retained. ECU is also in the mix.(Wolfpack chances- Good)
LB Nick Dawson...Berry Academy, Charlotte, NC
Notes...It would appear that for all intents and purposes, Dawson is down to State and Louisville. It is interesting because we get the sense that Dawson is valued higher by the recruiting experts than is reflected in the interest he is receiving from college coaches. For State's part, we wouldn't rule him out but we're not sure that he's a high priority right now. We think Louisville may be his ultimate destination unless the Pack ramps it up. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
RB Todd Gurley...Tarboro (NC) High School
Notes...After watching his run through the playoffs, it's hard to argue Gurley's ranking as the state's top player. Conventional wisdom has UNC and Georgia as the teams to beat. If Kenny Browning isn't retained at Carolina, that could definitely hurt the Heels. State has stayed in the race and may have quietly strengthened their position over the last couple of weeks and their chances look as good now as they've been all year. (Wolfpack chances- Good)
DE Kenderious Whitehead...Martin Luther King High School, Lithonia, GA
Notes...Whitehead represents the big time defensive end that State has tried desperately to land. The Pack has already received an official visit and landed a commitment from Whitehead's close friend and teammate, Jarnor Jones. However, State is a long shot with Clemson and Georgia the two main schools. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
DE Noah Spence...Bishop McDevitt High School, Harrisburg, PA
Notes...State has family and coaching connections to Spence and McDevitt High School. Unfortunately the Pack hasn't been able to translate that to any kind of advantage with Spence up to this point. There is a remote chance State could receive an official visit but for now we don't see that happening. Ohio State, Maryland, Notre Dame and Florida all look strong. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
LB Beniquez Brown...Florence (AL) High School
Notes...We're listing Brown because we know State is recruiting him hard and he's been all over the place with his recruiting. For now we don't really see this going anywhere but he plans to officially visit State in January so there's always a chance. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
OL J.J. Patterson...Roanoke Rapids (NC) High School
Notes...State was a little surprised when Patterson showed up for the Clemson game since the visit was unexpected. Again, we're not getting overly excited just yet but Patterson has stayed relatively mum on his recruiting and with Carolina's coaching situation up in the air, you never know. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
CB Chris Bivins...Gainesville (FL) High School
Notes...Bivins is another guy that State likes enough that they would take his commitment despite having pledges from two other cornerbacks. The Pack has landed an official visit despite Bivins commitment to South Florida. Arkansas and Tennessee are also in the mix and there was one report that Bivins would finalize his decision sometime this week. It would be a coup for State if it happened but unfortunately, it likely won't. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
LB Khalil Pettway...Culver City (CA) High School
Notes...Pettway was an early commitment to SMU but the Pack stayed in touch and he has expressed interest in officially visiting NC State. For now State is staying in touch but Pettway may not become a higher priority until some other players make their decision. (Wolfpack chances- Low)
