Bryce Kennedy committed to North Carolina back in October, but he has kept an open mind since the firing of Butch Davis.
With North Carolina appearing to be set to hire Southern Miss head coach Larry Fedora, Kennedy is monitoring the situation closely. The 6-3, 285-pound offensive lineman from Southern Pines (NC) Pinecrest remains verbally committed to the Heels and in recent weeks he has taken official visits to North Carolina, NC State and ECU.
Over the weekend he was in Chapel Hill and that trip seemed to go well but he's still waiting to see what shakes out with the new coaching staff.
"It was good to be around the guys this weekend," he said. "I was at UNC for a couple of days and then ECU for a couple of days.
"I had a good time with the players and everybody. Really I'm just waiting to see what they're going to do with the coach. Once they decide on that then I'll know more."
So who else is Kennedy keeping an eye on?
"NC State would probably be my second or third option," he said. "ECU is in there too. I love it up there at State.
"I've been to State three or four times and I've got a good connection with the coaches and players. I took my official visit there a little while back and it went great.
"They were going over the depth chart with me and talked about where I'd be at. They said I'd probably play a little guard for them. I thought it was all good. I'd definitely look at them depending on what happens (with the UNC coach)."
Kennedy will wait to find out who the Heels plan on hiring and then he wants to interact with the new coach and his staff to see what kind of a fit he would be with them. Then he will decide whether to stay on board with North Carolina or not.
