Gottfried: "We Have To Get There"

"We need to find out who in this group is interested in winning and then making each and every drill more competitive and it's been a competitive and awfully good week so far. In everything that we do, this group has got to find a way to develop more of a will to win. That's what we have to find. We've put ourselves in position to do that and we have to continue to try and do that. We have some potential but that doesn't really matter if we don't get matter at finishing games."

"I think we've played pretty well at different times. The last 15 minutes of that Texas game, we were terrific. We've played well at other times in other games, you can go through each and every game we've played and we've had stretches where we've played well. For us, it's taking those segments and now expanding them and making sure we're going to play to that level all the time. Every team doesn't play at a maximum high level every minute of every game, we just have to make sure that this group is mentally better, mentally tougher."

"Reynolds Coliseum is a fun environment, it's a fun place to play. The fans are awfully close on the sides and I think it's a nice venue for us to have to compliment the RBC Center when we have to play there. I'm glad we have it."

"I like their team. [North Carolina Central] is very athletic, they've got a terrific perimeter shooter, who's excellent when you look at the numbers. He's awfully good. They've got a couple of Division-1 transfers so they are good and I tell our players all the time you better respect everybody that you play."

"Calvin was 6 for 8 from the field, he has 14 points with 10 minutes to go in the game and I believe that if he had played in the last few minutes it would have certainly helped us. He's been playing very well, I think he's had a good start to his sophomore year. He's playing very efficiently. He's got to improve in a lot of areas but I think hit shot selection has been very good, his effort has been very good, we just need him to continue to improve and do what he's been doing."

"Jordan Vandenberg has a shoulder issue that we need to monitor, this has been a good work where he's had an opportunity to get a lot of treatment. We'll kind of keep evaluating him every day."

"The old saying that when the going gets tough the tough get going, we have to be better when it gets tougher. It's really simple. We have to enjoy that challenge, enjoy that part of the game, when another team makes a run. Do we invite that and say 'let's go to another level?' or do we seem to get unsure or more passive. We have to love the challenge, I've always said it, competitive greatness is the real love of a hard battle. When it gets real hard you have to love it, we have to get there, I don't think we're there yet."
