Pack Set to Host 4-Star Linebacker

NC State is making a late run at 4-star linebacker Beniquez Brown. He gives Pack Pride the latest on his top schools.

Next month NC State will be hosting a four-star prospect from Alabama for an official visit.

Beniquez Brown is ranked the No. 14 outside linebacker in the nation and the Florence (AL) prospect had a big senior season on both sides of the ball. On offense he rushed for 1,200 yards and 22 touchdowns from the running back position. On the other side of the ball he racked up 73 tackles at safety.

Plenty of schools have pursued the 6-2, 202-pound athlete over the course of the recruiting process, but now only five are left standing.

"I went on an official visit to Tennessee from December 3-5," Brown told Pack Pride this week. "That was pretty good. I went down and hung out with the players and academic advisers. Basically they had me with the people I would be around the most. Their offense looks pretty good. They're coming out of the I-Formation and running downhill so I would like that if I go there."

Prospects get five official visits and Brown has his other four set. He will be at Mississippi State (January 13), NC State (January 20) and Ole Miss (January 27) next month, and Brown will also take an official visit to Arkansas. He's just not sure when he will be with the Razorbacks.

NC State is a relative newcomer to this recruiting race and they're recruiting him to play a different position than Tennessee has mentioned.

"NC State really just came on the scene a little while ago and they've been talking to me," he explained. "They really want me to come there as a linebacker. I like them from what their defensive backs coach (Mike Reed) was telling me the other day.

"I have to find out more about them but that's why I'm going up there. I really don't care what position I play. Most schools have said it just depends on how my body fills out and I just tell them whatever gets me on the field the fastest."

Given Brown's talent it's tough to imagine he won't be making an early impact somewhere.

Brown added that he plans on taking all of his official visits before making his decision so it's unlikely that he makes an early call after one of his trips.
