Tyree Evans: Basketball Or Football?

Tyree Evans is one of the top two-sport athletes in the state of Virginia in the class of 2004. A 6-foot-2 rising senior, Evans stars in both football and basketball at George Wythe High School in Richmond, Virginia.

On the basketball floor, several of the top schools in the eastern United States are after shooting guard Tyree Evans. "James Madison, N.C. State, Cincinnati, and Miami [are the schools recruiting me the hardest,]" Evans said. "JMU, N.C. State, and Cincinnati have offered [for basketball.] Oh, and Virginia Commonwealth too."

At the shooting guard position, Evans had a great season on the hardcourt for George Wythe, averaging 23.4 points per game. He has also shown his game in AAU play recently and has been recognized as a four star prospect for basketball by TheInsiders.

On the football field, Evans has four favorites. "I like N.C. State, Miami, Virginia, and Virginia Tech," he said. Does he currently have any offers at this point? "I'm not positive, but I think N.C. State and Virginia Tech have offered me in that," Evans said. "They were going to I know."

On the gridiron, Evans also impressed as a junior. "I had like 1,100 yards and about 14 touchdowns, four interceptions, and about 40-catches," he said.

With the ability to play football and basketball at the next level, what does Evans want to play? "Both," he said. "I like both so I would want to try both."

Still, a decision is far off for the Richmond native. In regards to when he plans to make a decision, Evans said: "I don't know yet. I'll probably make a decision with college sometime next year."

In the meantime, Evans will attend the Nike All-American camp for basketball. "No football camps," Evans said. "I'll probably just workout real hard."
