Parting Shots: Leslie played under control and remained strictly in the paint, as you can see from the shot chart. He didn't stray too far outside, which he has had a tendency to do in the past, and when he keeps his offense 15-feet and in he is very difficult to stop.
He posted aggressively, but was able to generate points in transition as well. Overall, his activity level was vital to his success... he was active on both ends of the floor, and his defense triggered his offense.
NC State knew going in that they would have to try and slow down Terrell Stoglin if they were going to do defeat Maryland, and although Stoglin scored 25 points, the Pack certainly made him earn it and really limited him in crunch time.
Here is a look at Stoglin's shot attempts and how State guarded him on those shots.
1st Half: 17:48- Stoglin comes off a down-screen from James Padgett and pops-open free behind the 3-point line. C.J. Williams recovered late, C.J. Leslie didn't hedge, and Stoglin knocked down the 3-point jumper. FG (1-1): 3 Pts
1st Half: 17:12- Stoglin comes off the same ball screen, but Williams didn't caught up... recovered. Stoglin faced him up, jab-stepped and forced a contested 3-point attempt that he missed. FG (1-2): 3 Pts
|Field Goal Attempts||8-16|
|Free Throw Attempts||3-4|
1st Half: 11:39- Maryland spaced out the floor to open up the paint for Stoglin to attack Alex Johnson. Stoglin drove at Johnson and pulled-up for a short jumper near the free throw line that Johnson couldn't contest. FG (2-3): 5 Pts
1st Half: 10:49- On Maryland's next possession the Terps ran the same set but Stoglin had C.J. Williams on him. Williams used his 6'5 frame to body up and force Stoglin to fade on his pull-up jumper, that he missed. FG (2-4): 5 Pts
1st Half: 8:13- Alex Johnson lost Stoglin in transition, was caught up attempting to defend the paint. Pe'Shon Howard found Stoglin wide open in the right corner for a deep 3-pointer. FG (3-5): 8 Pts

Parting Shots: State mainly used C.J. Williams and Alex Johnson on Stoglin, but Lorenzo Brown was also on him for a couple of possessions. Williams tried to use his length to contest/harass Stoglin while Johnson often looked to deny him the basketball. Unofficially, Stoglin was 4-of-10 from the field with Williams defending and 4-of-6 with Johnson on him.
State also did a great job of keeping Stoglin off the free throw line. He came into the game averaging 7+ free throw attempts but attempted just four against State. Three came after being fouled on a 3-point attempt by Johnson, and the other was a front-end of a 1-and-1 that he missed.
Finally, the key to the game may have been State's defense late against Stoglin. At the 8:01 mark he hit a pull-up jumper of C.J. Williams, giving him 22 points in the game, and at that time he had already scored 14 second-half points. He didn't score again until a virtually meaningless 3-pointer with 3.6 seconds remaining. Over that final stretch he hit just 1-of-6 shots from the field.
