Owino Switches to the Pack

Raleigh (NC) Sanderson jumbo athlete Desmond Owino has switched his commitment from UNC to NC State.

Raleigh (NC) Sanderson's Desmond Owino opened up his recruitment just recently and he took an official visit to NC State over the weekend.

Owino had previously been committed to North Carolina but since the coaching shakeup in Chapel Hill he decided to take a closer look at all of his options.

Initially Owino's plan was to take several official visits before Signing Day but after this weekend in Raleigh he decided that he knows where he wants to be.

"I committed on Sunday," Owino told Pack Pride early this week. "The football program is winning and they have what I want to major in."

Owino wants to major in business and the coaches and everyone else at NC State made sure the 6-5, 235-pound athlete was able to check out the business program.

"Yes, I got to see the business school and how they handle business and everything. It was really good. I was impressed with what they do," Owino explained.

"I also got to meet a lot of the players and they're very interesting. It went well with the coaches and I got to meet them one on one. It was really good to get to know all of them.

"Coach O'Brien had just told me that they were interested in me and would like to have me on their football program."

As has been reported, Owino has only been in the United States for one year, and that's how long he has been playing football. He came to North Carolina from Kenya where he was previously a rugby player.

Owino chose NC State over offers from North Carolina, Maryland, Wake Forest and others. He said that he is done with his official visits and will sign with the Pack in February.
