Commit Date: 11-22-2011

Recruiting Scene: As a senior in high school McKinney was one of the more sought-after prospects in Georgia. He boasted early offers from Tennessee, Rutgers,  Duke, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, South Carolina and Southern Miss before committing to South Carolina in August prior to his senior season.

McKinney failed to qualify and spent this past semester at Hargrave Military Academy shoring up his academics. He decided to reopen his recruiting and State jumped on him immediately. The Pack hosted him for an official visit back in November and he committed a couple of days after that visit. He mentioned possible visits to Rutgers and Mississippi State but decided against those and remained solid to the Wolfpack.

Picked NC State Over: Mississippi State, Rutgers

Scouting Report: McKinney is a tough guy with good upper body playing strength along with an aggressive finishing attitude. Plays tackle however his size and athleticism are better suited for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition. Appears a little stiff in a three point but comes off the ball quickly although his initial fit and pad level are too high; has a good base, brings his feet, enabling him to sustain. Flashes explosion but can get stalemated however this player is a battler who eventually gets movement off the line of scrimmage; shows good initial quickness and if he learns to lower his pad level will improve his chances vs. quick 1st and 2nd level defenders. We like his aggressive approach downfield; displays quickness to linebackers; plays on his feet with positive results while always looking for a second block- ESPN
