Mays Staying Patient

Garner (NC) High forward James Mays is having a very productive spring. A few new schools have called on him already and he's got a handful of juicy offers as well.

The spring has been good to 2004 forward James Mays. The 6-8 Garner High standout has excelled at a few events with the N.C. Gaters. Now, he's reaping the benefits of his play.

North Carolina State, Virginia and South Carolina are recruiting him the hardest but others are calling, like North Carolina. "I talked to one of the assistant coaches and they said they were interested in recruiting me. That's one new school."

And the Tar Heels would be tough to be beat if they ever decided to move on Mays. "All I can say is Carolina is an awesome school. It's an awesome school."

UNC, unlike NC State, Virginia and South Carolina, has not offered. Mays said that he's very interested in Xavier as well but the Musketeers have not offered to date. Still, with David West having graduated from the same high school, you know Thad Matta's boys will be in the mix.

"I've talked to David before and he's told me how everything was. He loves it."

Florida State hasn't offered yet either, but Mays feels like if he takes a visit to Tallahassee, the offer would be there. "A couple of schools like Virginia and South Carolina want me to take a visit. Florida State wants me to visit and if I got they'll offer."

Regardless of what's going on now, Mays sounds like a patient prospect. "I'm going to wait until the fall to make my decision."
