Offers Out to Rogers

Shelby (NC) Crest always seems to produce talent and defensive end Dane Rogers will continue that in 2012.

Dane Rogers is one of the best junior prospects in North Carolina and he recently took a trip to NC State to see what the Pack has to offer.

It turned out to be a great visit for the Shelby (NC) Crest standout. He learned a lot about State during the trip and after it was over he learned that the Wolfpack coaches had decided to offer him.

"It was Coach Tom O'Brien that offered me," Rogers recalled. "I was surprised. I wasn't really expecting an offer because I had never really communicated with NC State that much since recruiting started. Luckily my mom was with me because I was out of words, which is a good thing."

The visit itself gave Rogers a good impression of the school. He didn't know what to expect going into the trip and he met a lot of people he had never spoken to before.

"They have really nice facilities," he said. "I had a great bond with the coaches. I just like NC State a lot. I'm planning to go back for another visit. They said they wanted me to go back for spring ball or something like that.

"I talked to one of the quarterbacks and one of the linebackers they had there and we had a little meeting with them, just to see what NC State is like for them and what made them want to join the Wolfpack. It was a great experience."

The week after Rogers' trip to NC State he took a visit to Clemson.

"It was nice there too," he noted. "I've been there before. My cousin Carlos Watkins is committed there so I'm looking forward to going back to watch him play.

"I like Clemson a lot. I've been there twice. I talk to Coach (Marion) Hobby and my recruiter is Coach Brooks. I've got a great bond with them. They've got a lot of good players and good coaches. Since they picked up their new defensive coordinator I know that defense is going to be something else and I can't wait to see it."

The 6-3, 226-pound defensive end said his next trip will probably be to Florida at the end of this week.

Are any schools standing out?

"Not really. I've pretty much just started with this," he said. "I'll probably have some favorites come the start of the season. Maybe in August or September. I'm pretty sure I'm just going to as many junior days as I can with schools that have interest in me."

Tennessee has also offered Rogers.
